Point North achieves Good Business Charter
Point North has achieved Good Business Charter (GBC) accreditation, joining a growing national movement of organisations committed to raising standards across the UK.
At a time when headlines too often highlight corporate wrongdoing, the Good Business Charter offers a different lens. It shines a light on organisations choosing to do the right thing. Not just in what they deliver, but in how they operate every day, behind the scenes.
Founded by Julian Richer and developed alongside the Confederation of British Industry, the Trades Union Congress and the Federation of Small Businesses, the Good Business Charter sets a clear benchmark for responsible business in the UK. It brings together the interests of people, business and society, and challenges organisations to put fairness, transparency and sustainability first.
By achieving GBC accreditation, Point North has committed to ten principles that reflect how we want to work. These include paying the real Living Wage, listening to and valuing our team, sourcing ethically, reducing our environmental impact and paying our fair share of tax.
For us, this is about accountability. It’s about fairness. And it’s about trust.
How we work matters to our employees, our donors and the communities we serve. This accreditation is one way we’re demonstrating our values in action, and holding ourselves to the same standards we encourage in others.
Michelle Cooper, CEO of Point North, said: “We’re proud to be accredited by the Good Business Charter. This milestone reflects our dedication to upholding high ethical standards across all our operations. We’d encourage other organisations to consider how responsible practices can benefit both society and the organisations themselves.”
The Good Business Charter is helping to raise expectations of what good business practise looks like. It supports organisations that want to lead with integrity and contribute to a fairer, more sustainable society.
What is the Good Business Charter?
The Good Business Charter was developed, and is overseen by, the Good Business Foundation, an independent charity established in 2019 by entrepreneur Julian Richer.
The Charter is an accreditation which organisations in the UK can sign up to in recognition of responsible business practices.
It measures behaviour over ten components (nine for charities and public sector): real living wage; fairer hours and contracts; employee well-being; employee representation; equality, diversity and inclusion; environmental responsibility; paying fair tax; commitment to customers; ethical sourcing, and prompt payment. An organisation must meet all ten components (nine for charities and public sector) to receive GBC accreditation.
It is open to private sector, public sector and charities of all sizes including a streamlined version for organisations with 50 employees or fewer.
