The fund provides grants to alleviate the need, hardship, and distress experienced by individuals or families with children under 16 or in full-time education.

Examples of items that can be purchased with this fund include:

• White goods: fridge freezer, freestanding cooker, washing machine
• Household items: pans, kettle, iron, toaster
• Children’s furniture and essentials: pushchair, bunk-bend, cot, school uniform
• Warmer home and energy saving items: heated blankets, basic air fryer, energy efficient heater and dehumidifier

Applications must be made a frontline worker, career advisor, social worker, or support worker from a relevant registered charity, housing association or public sector organisation.

The fund provides grants to unemployed people living in East Durham who are facing barriers to employment, skills development or vocational training programmes.

Examples of how the fund can be used include:

• Accredited training programmes
• travel costs towards training
• contribution towards childcare costs
• Bicycle, helmet and locks
• Driving lessons where a job requires a full license (you will need to hold a provisional licence and have passed your driving theory test)
