The Christine Carter Creative Arts Fund provides bursaries to talented artists and creative practitioners who are facing financial hardship.

Location(s): County Durham, Sunderland

Grant size: Up to £250

Who can apply?

The fund can support artists and creative practitioners who are:

beginning their creative arts training; or
looking to develop their artistic career or studies; or
looking to develop their practice towards arts for social change; or
from an underrepresented or marginalised group.

We can only process your application subject to verification from a named sponsor or referrer. This could be:

A teacher or tutor
A frontline worker who provides information, advice, and guidance
A careers adviser
A social worker or support worker

What does the fund cover?

Here are some examples of the type of funding you can apply for, but this list doesn’t include everything:

Art and craft materials
Essential equipment needed for course, study, or work
Accredited training programmes (not higher education)
Study aids such as books
Travel costs toward training

What does the fund not cover?

Contributions towards course fees if the course fee is more than £2,000
Higher education fees, (tertiary) student fees and educational bursaries
Items that are the responsibility of an employer or third party to provide
Any item or activity where there is a statutory obligation to provide it, such as uniforms or safety equipment
Items that have already been purchased and activities that have already taken place

What is the application process?

When you have completed the application in full, we aim to have a decision for you within six weeks.
